Moses Kuria Now Only Cabinet Secretary Without Prestigious EGH Title, Award
Moses Kuria, the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, stands out as the sole member of President William Ruto’s Cabinet who hasn’t received the esteemed Elder of the Order Golden Heart of Kenya (EGH), the most prestigious state honor in the country.
After President Ruto bestowed titles upon Cabinet Secretaries Njuguna Ndung’u (Treasury), Aisha Jumwa (Gender, Culture), Florence Bore (Labour), and Alice Wahome (Lands) last Friday, commending their outstanding dedication to the nation.
The EGH award is bestowed to acknowledge exceptional contributions made to the nation across diverse roles and duties.
Currently, the roster of awardees includes prominent cabinet secretaries, Members of Parliament (MPs), governors, and athletes.
Previously, President Ruto bestowed a comparable distinction upon nine of his cabinet secretaries during the 60th Jamhuri Day festivities in December of the preceding year.
As outlined in the National Honors Act of 2014, the recognition is bestowed upon individuals from Kenya who have demonstrated outstanding attributes, deeds, accomplishments, and dedication in their contributions to the nation.
It is also awarded to individuals who have significantly contributed to the country across various domains like journalism, business, economics, social endeavors, scientific endeavors, or any other field.
It is also granted to state officials in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the national, and county governments, executive, judiciary, legislature, and independent offices and institutions.

The ex-Gatundu South Member of Parliament has been embroiled in various controversies, including criticisms directed towards institutions like the media and fellow government figures like Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In October of the previous year, Mr. Kuria transitioned from the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry to the Ministry of Public Service Performance and Delivery.
Mr. Kuria who was not on the list went to the X platform (formerly Twitter) to express his frustrations by sharing a photograph of the gazette notice with the names of those honored with a separate image of the Office of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and captioned it, “We shall be there no matter what.”
He immediately went to the X platform to upload a vernacular song and a photo of Mr Gachagua saying, “If you were agitated by me when I was handling one Ministry now be prepared for even more discomfort,”
His pronouncements on his official social media have always landed him trouble.
Last July, for example, during her visit to the country, United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai canceled two planned meetings with Mr. Kuria, which were intended to discuss trade relations, due to his objectionable comments about institutions like the media and individuals.
In October, Mr Kuria was redeployed to the Public Service Ministry.
