According to Section 13 of the Standards Act, Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria degazetted the names of 37 Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) inspectors on Friday.

In his notification, the Trade CS stated that their responsibilities ceased to exist as of September 1st.

In accordance with the Standards Act, Kuria appointed 51 replacement inspectors in their stead.

According to the Act, inspectors are tasked with entering premises to conduct inspections and obtaining samples for testing of any substance used in manufacturing, production, processing, or treatment.

If they discover that the products are contaminated, they are free to order the elimination of the detained goods.

“The Minister may, at the request of the council (National Standards Council), by notice in the Gazette appoint as an inspector for the purposes of this Act any person who in his opinion is suitably qualified,” read the Act in part.
