Moses Kuria Claims Rigathi Chaired Meeting That Allowed VAT on Milk, Bread: “Dishonourable Man”

Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria has renewed his onslaught on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In a statement on X, the CS accused his boss of being deceitful in his sentiments about the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Kuria claimed the second in command was part of the team that drafted the initial Bill before Ruto made concessions.

The CS alleged that Gachagua chaired the meeting where a resolution was made to include value-added tax (VAT) on bread and milk.

“The Committee meeting that endorsed the original Finance Bill, which included VAT for milk and bread, was chaired by the Deputy President. What a lying, dishonorable man,” Kuria stated.

What did Rigathi say about the Kenya Kwanza government?

During a press briefing from Mombasa on Tuesday, June 26, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua lauded President William Ruto for withdrawing the Finance Bill 2024.

He said Ruto decided after listening to the people of Kenya, arguing that it signifies a new beginning that should nurture the culture of consultation and engagement.

“The president, in his admission, has listened to the people and admitted there was a problem and that the people were opposed to the Bill in its entirety. It is also the beginning of acknowledging that there is a disconnect between the people and their government. I want to thank the president for listening to the people as he should,” he said.

The DP questioned why the government had become so unpopular despite being elected twenty months ago.

“When did we stop listening to the people? President Ruto and I were the darling of the Kenyan people by listening to them, engaging them?” Gachagua posed.

Did Noordin Haji link Gachagua to the violent protests?

Earlier, Gachagua revealed the machinations allegedly engineered by the National Intelligence Service (NIS) top brass to link him and Uhuru Kenyatta to the recent anti-finance bill protests.

According to the deputy president, Haji had strived to help unnamed government operatives to advance the misplaced narrative that he (Gachagua) and Uhuru were the bankrollers of the protests.
