Moses Kuria Blames Mt. Kenya’s Political Missteps for ‘Poor Cabinet Picks’ in Recent Reshuffle

Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has commented on the recent cabinet reshuffle, suggesting that the Mt. Kenya region may have been disadvantaged.

Kuria, who was removed from Ruto’s cabinet, argued that while the ODM faction led by Raila showcased prominent political figures, the Mt. Kenya region put forward lesser-known individuals with ambiguous qualifications.

He made these remarks in Subukia on Wednesday at the funeral of Professor Ngugi Njoroge.

“Wakati wa reshuffle ilikuwa hapa juzi, wengine umeona wameleta ma superstars wao.. si mmeona Joho? Si mmeona oparanya, Si umeona John Mbadi?” Kuria posed.

“Sisi wale wetu wamerudishwa, wamechaguliwa, hata ukienda kwa encyclopaedia, huwezi jua mtu ametoka wapi ama anaenda wapi,”

Kuria pointed out that one mistake the vote-rich region made before the last General Election was not having its political party.

“Huyu deputy president kabla alime CS wa kutoka kwingine, alikuwa anatulima sisi watu wa mlima,” Kuria added.

“Yeye, analima wabunge, nao wabunge wanamlima, mimi hata wale wamenikosea, hata deputy president sina shida na wao.”

Kuria mentioned that several politicians, including the Deputy President, criticized him for urging them to join a single party before the 2022 elections.

“I keep telling people that you cannot got to a wedding in the groom’s car because at any point, the groom may demand the key back and you may have to walk home,” he said.

The former CS also addressed the speculation about DP Gachagua’s potential impeachment, stating that he would oppose any efforts to remove the deputy president.

“I will not agree for the deputy president to be impeached,… as long as I’m alive, sitakubali akuwe impeached,” Kuria said.

“We cannot pay a bad deed with a worse one, I have released him on a free bond, hakuna shida.”

Kuria, who joked about his joblessness, pledged to travel across the Mt. Kenya region to share his experiences since the last election and ensure the region avoids repeating past mistakes.

Kuria argued that the Mt. Kenya region hurt itself through ongoing disputes and political conflicts.

He suggested that DP Gachagua had begun to target Mt. Kenya leaders before the reshuffle.

According to Kuria, political misjudgments and unnecessary conflicts led to other individuals securing positions in Ruto’s new cabinet.

“Before you start any war, you should also focus on how the war will end, all these fights are the ones that made other people seize the opportunity to join government.”
