This incident happened just a fortnight following another bus affiliated with Kenyatta University, which was involved in a crash in Voi, Taita Taveta County, en route to Mombasa.

The collision between the university bus and a trailer took place on Monday, March 18, leading to the tragic loss of 11 students. Additionally, numerous individuals sustained injuries in the horrific incident.

After a series of accidents claiming the lives of approximately 30 Kenyan citizens within the past month, the Ministry of Transport has introduced fresh initiatives aimed at reducing further incidents.

One of the initiatives unveiled by Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen was the reinstatement of National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) personnel to patrol the roads.

Furthermore, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki suggested implementing an age restriction for obtaining driving licenses following a notable increase in road accidents nationwide.

“There are people who should not drive because of age or health reasons. Right now, as long as you can hold the steering wheel, you are good to go. There are some countries where the licenses cannot be renewed for those past the age of 70 years,” he stated.
