Mining Cabinet Secretary Nominee Hassan Joho Discloses Ksh2.36 Billion Net Worth Before Parliamentary Committee
Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho revealed on Sunday that his net worth is approximately Ksh2.36 billion.
During his appearance before the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments, the former Mombasa Governor mentioned that the majority of his wealth is tied up in real estate and business investments.
He clarified that his assets, excluding those of his family, amount to Ksh2,361,332,249.
Joho detailed that his wealth comprises both developed and undeveloped properties, including homes in Mombasa, Vipingo, Nairobi, and Malindi.
He also mentioned holding shares in various companies and owning additional properties.
The ex-governor emphasized that his family businesses, primarily in logistics, are independent of government connections.
“My family operates in the logistics sector and they are quite occupied,” he said.
“Sometimes it’s challenging to get them to assist with social initiatives and our foundation.”
Joho assured the committee that he would not flaunt his wealth if appointed to the position.

“I want to assure this honorable committee that I understand the importance of balance in life. When serving the public, it’s crucial to make them feel at ease,” he stated.
“You need to make people feel you’re one of them. Therefore, displaying wealth is not my style. I am dedicated to serving the Kenyan people when I’m in my professional role. Enjoying my personal life is a separate matter.”
Joho’s response came after Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah raised concerns about his lavish lifestyle on social media, particularly TikTok.
He clarified that he owned several luxury watches, valued in millions, before his public service career.
“You inquired about jewelry, but I’m referring to watches I’ve had since before my parliamentary tenure. I know how to manage my image. I don’t need to flaunt my watches; it serves no purpose,” he explained.
“I enjoy wearing them. Even this morning, I debated whether to wear a watch. Ultimately, I decided to conceal it under my shirt sleeves to avoid showing off,” he demonstrated to the panel.
