Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki returned to the Shakahola village in Kilifi on April 28, as the search for additional bodies intensified.

Before Kindiki’s second visit to the region, military helicopters landed in the vast forest while government officials continued exhuming bodies.

Kindiki stated that the government had intensified search and rescue operations in Shakahola.

Kindiki said in a statement that additional security officers have been added to the ongoing operation to save the lives of individuals hiding in bushes and thickets.

The chief of staff also stated that aerial surveillance had been incorporated to increase the search and rescue mission’s capacity.

“The entire 50,000-acre Chakama Ranch is designated as a crime scene and disturbed area. Legal, judicial, and ethical considerations restrict access to the area. Kindiki explained that the government has nothing to hide and will ensure justice for the victims of this tragedy.

Kindiki announced that the government had decided to transfer all station, divisional, sub-county, and county heads and commanders in Kilifi County immediately to facilitate thorough and conclusive investigations into the Shakahola tragedy.

“This includes officers from the Kenya Police Service, the Administration Police Service, and the National Government Administration to instill confidence in the ongoing operation and assure the country that there will be accountability,” said the CS.

Kindiki’s visit occurred after a former follower of pastor Paul Mackenzie revealed some of his controversial activities.

These are the sermons of Pastor Paul Mackenzie.

Titus Katana, a former member of Mackenzie’s congregation, stated that he left the Good News International Church after the controversial minister imposed new restrictions.

“It reached a point where there were too many laws in that church. For instance, asking women not to braid their hair. Stating that people should not go to the hospital or school,” Katana was quoted as saying by Nation.

Katana stated that the situation deteriorated. After another church member informed him that Mackenzie intended to force his congregation. To starve to death for them to find God.

He stated that devotees were required to sell their land, homes, and factories. To enter the Shakahola forest and await Jesus’ arrival.

According to the fasting schedule allegedly drafted by Mackenzie. Children were required to fast first, than single people, and finally the pastor’s family.
