Miguna Miguna Faces Backlash Over Criticism of Okiya Omtatah’s Presidential Bid
Lawyer Miguna Miguna faced challenges in addressing opposing views following his extensive X post criticizing Okiya Omtatahโs bid for the presidency.
In his remarks on the platform, Miguna accused the Busia senator and activist of secretly aligning with President William Ruto.
Miguna alleged that Omtatahโs 2027 presidential campaign was a deliberate tactic to distract Kenyans from Rutoโs alleged misconduct and to divert their focus until the election year.
“I am calling out Okiya Omtatah. If he isnโt Rutoโs agent, I challenge him to halt his ill-conceived 2027 campaign and instead lead a revolutionary movement to oust Ruto nowโbefore 2027,” Miguna asserted.
“Anyone claiming to contest the presidency in 2027 under Rutoโs control of the police, NIS, IEBC, and the judiciary is either a decoy or a Ruto agent,” he further claimed.
Miguna urged Omtatah to take a direct stand against Ruto rather than filing lawsuits against government officials in court.
However, many Kenyans strongly opposed Migunaโs perspective, taking to his tweet to defend and support Omtatah.
Respondents highlighted Omtatahโs track record of fighting for ordinary citizens by challenging oppressive government policies in court.

“My friend Miguna, we have history. Omtatahโs consistency is evidentโsomething you lack. A manโs character doesnโt change overnight,” Nelson Mapema responded to Miguna.
Others argued that Omtatah stands out among Kenyan politicians, noting his integrity and lack of ties to corruption or mismanagement.
Some criticized the Canada-based lawyer for frequently “complaining” online without taking practical steps to implement his revolutionary ideas in Kenya.
“Until you return to Kenya, youโll remain a keyboard warrior with polished English. Omtatah is here; you are not,” one X user retorted.
Many also reminded Miguna of his vocal support for Ruto during the last election, questioning his current disapproval of the administration he once backed.
Other users highlighted Migunaโs controversial past, including his 2018 act of swearing in opposition leader Raila Odinga, which was deemed treasonous.
Despite the backlash, Miguna engaged with critics under his post, even resorting to insults at times to counter their remarks.
