Meet Veronica Mueni Nduva: Ruto’s EAC Secretary-General Pick
On Monday, President William Ruto put forth Veronica Mueni Nduva as his nominee for the position of Secretary General of the East African Community to be considered by the Summit of the Heads of States.
President Ruto appointed Nduva to take over the position previously held by Caroline Mwende Mueke, who was initially nominated for the role in March.
Cabinet Secretary for East African Community (EAC), Peninah Malonza, communicated the modifications in a letter directed to Minister Deng Alor Kuol, who chairs the EAC Affairs Committee.
But who is the new EAC SG nominee Nduva?
Nduva currently serves as the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Performance and Delivery Management within the Ministry of Public Service.
She assumed the role after President Ruto reorganized and restructured Ministries/Departments in October 2023.
Nduva, who previously held the position of Principal Secretary at the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action, is a seasoned governance specialist and experienced professional in the public sector.
She has amassed more than twenty years of professional experience spanning various industries.
As stated in her Ministry of Performance and Delivery Management bio, she has experience collaborating with the East African Community, various Kenyan civil society organizations, and the government of the United States.

Nduva has attained a Master’s degree in Communication, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Nairobi.
