Meet Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia, Man Poised to Become the Fourth Governor of Meru County
Meru County’s Deputy Governor, Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia, is on the verge of assuming office as the county’s fourth Governor.
This comes after the Senate upheld the impeachment of Governor Kawira Mwangaza on the night of August 20, following a decision by the Meru County Assembly.
A majority of Senators determined that the beleaguered County Chief was indeed culpable on all three counts brought against her.
The charges, which included gross violations of the constitution, abuse of office, and gross misconduct, saw 26 Senators vote in favor of her impeachment, 4 against, and 14 abstain.
“The senators, having voted to uphold the charges against the Meru governor, Governor Kawira Mwangaza ceases to hold office,” Speaker Amason Kingi declared in a session that extended past midnight.
M’Ethingia, the son of the late Njuri Ncheke chairman Paul M’Ethingia, gained public attention in February 2022 when he was selected by Mwangaza as her running mate.
Both M’Ethingia and Mwangaza secured their positions as independent candidates in the 2022 general elections, underscoring their dedication to efficient governance.
Hailing from Igembe South, M’Ethingia played a crucial role in counteracting the political influence of Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate from the same region.

M’Ethingia brings a wealth of public service experience, a key factor in his selection as Mwangaza’s deputy.
Before becoming Deputy Governor, M’Ethingia served as a Senior Officer in the Kenya Prisons Service (KPS).
