Meet Eckomas Mwengi Mutuse: The MP Pushing for Gachagua’s Impeachment
Kibwezi West MP Eckomas Mutuse Mwengi has stirred up attention by initiating an impeachment motion against Kenya’s Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua.
Mutuse, asserting his constitutional rights as both a legislator and concerned citizen, explained his plans to present the motion in Parliament.
Groundbreaking impeachment attempt
Mutuse, who has a legal background, referenced Articles 150 and 145 of the Kenyan Constitution, which outline the grounds for removing a Deputy President from office.
He stressed that these provisions were meant to be applied when circumstances warrant. Confident in his approach, Mutuse mentioned that the evidence supporting the motion would significantly influence public opinion.
“This afternoon, as part of my civic duty and responsibilities as an MP, I will give notice of a motion for the removal of the Deputy President from office by impeachment, according to Articles 150 and 145 of our Constitution,” Mutuse stated.
He also hinted that the evidence he and his colleagues plan to present would “shock Kenyans,” highlighting the gravity of the charges expected to be raised.
