An online video depicting a motorist bleeding heavily from the head following an incident where a traffic officer struck him with handcuffs has generated varied responses from viewers.

The distressed driver caught the eye of onlookers, compelling them to pause and witness the unfolding drama.

In recounting the event, he asserted that traffic officers apprehended him, forcibly took him to a police station, and alleged that he had stolen a phone and a firearm belonging to one of the officers.

The driver denied the accusation, contending that the charges against him were fabricated. Subsequently, a confrontation occurred, leading to the claim that the officer struck him on the head with handcuffs.

“I went to the police station and they accused me of stealing a mobile phone and other items from the officer,” claimed the driver in the video sent to Sikika Safety by a concerned onlooker.

“There are some people who captured him on video. He was walking while I was driving and indicated that I was going to leave. He ordered me to stop.”

Venting his frustrations about the incident, the driver encouraged the bystanders who had recorded the event on their phones to post the videos online and assist in holding the officer accountable.

Nevertheless, the precise location of the incident and the police station where the officer was stationed at the time of the report had not been determined.

The driver also asserted that he was unable to afford medical care because he didn’t have sufficient funds. In expressing their dissatisfaction, the community members warned of marching towards the police station to address the issue directly with the officer.

Three months ago, a police officer from Embakasi Police Station was caught in a heated confrontation with a motorist along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway in a comparable incident.

During the occurrence on October 27th of the previous year, the law enforcement officer was observed seated provocatively inside the driver’s vehicle as the confrontation intensified.

“The driver saw that and tried removing him, and that’s when the scuffle started. Mwaniki called for backup. The driver, the man on the video arguing with Mwaniki, ran away after more police officers arrived,” the passenger, who shared the story with Boniface Mwangi, alleged.

“I was assaulted for recording this video, arrested, and taken to Embakasi Police Station. Mwaniki said that the driver and l assaulted him and stole Ksh 10,000 shillings and that he would charge me with robbery with violence.”
