Martha Karua Reignites Attacks on Ruto, Issues 4 Demands

NARC-Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua has condemned the kidnapping of prominent human rights advocate Boniface Mwangi, who was taken from his home in Lukenya, Machakos County, on the morning of Sunday, October 27.

In her press statement, Karua criticized police officers for failing to adhere to legal requirements for identification. โ€œThe abductors did not reveal their identities or explain why and where they were taking Mwangi,โ€ she remarked.

Karua, a vocal critic of the government, pointed out that the abductions are often carried out by individuals believed to be police officers, whose role is to protect the public. She urged the government to put an end to these kidnappings.

โ€œThese kidnappings, disappearances, and extrajudicial killings targeting our youth, particularly innocent Kenyans, have become a signature tactic of the Ruto administration. This alarming trend of abductions and killings of our young people must cease immediately,โ€ she stated.

According to Karua, these abductions serve as grim reminders of the government’s intent to stifle dissent. She emphasized that it is time for people to see through this deception and take a stand against oppression.

The NARC-Kenya Party leader also criticized President Rutoโ€™s administration for allegedly creating illegal squads made up of foreigners to carry out these abductions. โ€œA regime that resorts to forming extralegal groups for terrorizing and killing its citizens lacks the moral authority to govern and should be removed from power,โ€ she asserted, emphasizing the unconstitutionality of such actions.

โ€œThis targeting of activists, journalists, and youth represents a direct attack on the principles of equality, justice, and freedom enshrined in Kenya’s Constitution,โ€ she continued.

Karua reiterated that the right to life and liberty, as stated in the Constitution, must be upheld without exceptions.

โ€œWe demand that the Ruto administration take full responsibility for the safety and well-being of Boniface Mwangi and all the disappearances and extrajudicial killings occurring in Kenya, particularly since the June 2024 GenZ protests,โ€ she insisted.

The former Minister also called for the immediate and unconditional release of Boniface Mwangi and an end to extrajudicial abductions, labeling them as unconstitutional and illegal under Kenyan law, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Additionally, she called for an impartial investigation and international oversight regarding the extrajudicial abductions and killings, as well as the full prosecution of those involved, urging the African Union (AU), the United Nations (UN), and regional organizations to oversee this issue and ensure accountability for abuses of power.

โ€œDespite Ruto’s ongoing efforts to oppress Kenyans and instill terror and hopelessness, the people of Kenya are not powerless and have a constitutional right to self-defense against these blatant violations of their fundamental rights to life, liberty, and dignity,โ€ she declared.

Karua urged Kenyans to resist abductions, arbitrary arrests, and extrajudicial executions, as these actions aim to silence alternative voices.
