Manhunt Launched: Suspect Poisons Primary School Water Source

Wednesday, June 21, police officers launched a manhunt for a suspect. Accused of poisoning a water source at a primary school in Nyandarua.

The head cook at Munyeki Primary School raised the alarm when he discovered that the water was foaming.

She filed a report with the school administration to avert a recurrence of the tragedy that occurred at Mukumu Girls in the past. The school administration promptly contacted the police.

Poisoned spring that supplied drinking water to Mukumu students

To determine if the water was tainted, detectives were tasked with conducting tests and launching investigations.

“When I went to fill a bucket with water, I noticed that it was producing a great deal of foam. This prompted me to notify the assistant principal immediately, as I believed someone had added soap to the water.

“We later realized it was something else and notified the school,” the cook said, adding that she was unwilling to take unnecessary risks.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations who responded to the crime scene. Confirmed that the water was tainted and that the suspect may have committed the crime at night.

The analysis of 2,000 liters of water revealed that it was toxic for human consumption. To determine the type of poison used, detectives collected samples for further examination in government laboratories.

As soon as the incident was reported, the students were warned not to drink the water, according to the chief education officer for the area, Pachomius Wambugu.

“Despite this occurrence, the parents and students have maintained their composure, which is commendable. I want to assure you that the governor will ensure that the school’s security is increased and that the suspect is apprehended.

“I would like to thank the school cook for caring for these students and recognizing the issue early on. Without her, we would be analyzing a different incident,” Wambugu praised the efforts of the cook.

Following the tragedy at Mukumu Girls School in Kakamega, which resulted in four deaths and dozens of hospitalizations, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu mandated that schools appoint safety committees to ensure compliance with all sanitation regulations.

Members were also tasked with ensuring that safety guidelines are developed to safeguard students in the event of a disease outbreak.
