Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago encountered an unfriendly welcome when he joined Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at a gathering in Eldoret.

Mandago had to quickly retreat to the safety of his car when Gachagua spoke to the audience while they were on their way to conclude the Devolution Conference 2023 on Friday, August 18th.

A recording available on GossipA2Z.Com depicted Mandago’s effort to pacify an angry group that shouted offensive words at him. The crowd appeared displeased by his supposed connection to the Finland airlift controversy and his subsequent apprehension.

While his chauffeurs navigated through the locals who had assembled to greet Gachagua, the senator from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) appeared through the open roof of the car to acknowledge them. Nevertheless, due to their shouts and the objects thrown his way, he was swiftly obliged to withdraw back into the vehicle.

It is claimed in reports that Mandago tried to speak to the residents who had accused him of deceiving them of large sums of money in the contentious education program.

“Go away. We don’t want you to address us. Just go away, we will not listen to you,” the crowd was heard shouting as his drivers sped off.

A significant crowd followed Mandago’s procession, likely intending to highlight their dissatisfaction with the senator. He has received widespread criticism following accusations of his involvement in a plan that diverted around Ksh1 billion from students and parents in need.

Once more, Mandago was observed raising his head through the sunroof of his SUV, yet his aides promptly gestured for him to lower himself to ensure his safety.

The event took place just a day after his release on bail after his apprehension for misappropriating funds designated for the Uasin Gishu Scholarship Fund.

On Thursday, August 17th, Mandago and two other individuals were brought before the court about the Finland Scholarship Scandal. This scandal involves financial misconduct that was carried out by government officials from Uasin Gishu County.

During the event, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua urged former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to show regard for the global community, particularly US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman. The Ambassador faced backlash for her statement asserting the credibility of the August 9, 2022, General Election.

“The old man should respect people. He does not even have the power to fire a local Chief, yet he is claiming to be able to force America to recall their Ambassador.

“Raila should relax at home and wait for his monthly Ksh2,000 meant for the elderly under the Inua Jamii program,” Gachagua chided the opposition leader, who threatened to call for the withdrawal of Ambassador Whitman.
