Man United boss Erik ten Hag responds to Jadon Sancho’s statement amid Chelsea transfer claims
Erik ten Hag has doubled down on his Jadon Sancho admission despite the Manchester United star’s shocking public response.
The England international was left out of the matchday squad to face Arsenal in the Premier League at Emirates Stadium with Ten Hag revealing after the 3-1 defeat it was due to his performances in training.
“Jadon [Sancho] – Performance in training so we didn’t select him,” he told the media. “You have to reach a level every day at Manchester United and we can make choices in a fortnight and yeah, so for this game he wasn’t selected.”
However, soon after, Sancho provided his response on social media calling the training claim ‘untrue’ and labeling himself as a ‘scapegoat’. The statement read: “Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people to say completely untrue things, I have conducted myself in training very well this week.
“I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair! All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team. I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and am grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!”
Amid the back-and-forth between player and manager, it was revealed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano that Sancho was offered to the Blues in discussions over Marc Cucurella with Man United, although the Red Devils opted to instead sign Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham. And now, to add further drama to the situation, Ten Hag has responded to Sancho’s lengthy post.
According to ESPN, the United boss is standing by his comments about Sancho Ten Hag after being made aware of his response on the journey back to Manchester from London, but it was noted he declined to offer some clarification to his initial comments.
The report also states he believes he was clear on his reasons for leaving Sancho out and is standing by the view that his training performances did not mean he deserved a place in the squad
