Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga was compelled to rescue former Kieni member of parliament Kanini Kega from a hostile crowd on Saturday.

People criticized Kega as he spoke at a political rally in Ruiru Stadium, Kiambu, and demanded that he leave the stage.

The member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) attempted to call for the unification of Mt. Kenya, but the throng could not hear him.

When Maina Njenga replaced Kega at the microphone, the audience quieted to listen to the politician.

“You may have heard that President William Ruto and Raila Odinga were in Mombasa together. “Are you aware of what they said?” Njenga inquired of the audience.

They remarked in unison that they were unaware of the specifics of the conversation between the President and the Azimio leader.

Njenga reasoned that if Ruto met with the opposition leader, the audience should also allow Kega to speak.

“Listen to Kanini Kega whether you like him or not,” Maina Njenga instructed the audience as he returned the microphone to Kega.

The erstwhile Kieni representative was then able to continue speaking about how Mount Kenya should have a unified purpose.

Kanini Kega further commended Maina Njenga for calming the crowd, observing that the two had been longtime friends.

He added that Mount Kenya should unite in anticipation of the general elections in 2027 and 2032.

Kega was a staunch supporter of Raila Odinga before the general election of 2022, but he defected after Raila’s loss to Ruto.
