Legal Roadblock: Court Thwarts Mackenzie Couple’s Jail Church Plan

On Friday, May 5, the prosecution team in Paul Mackenzie’s case expressed concern over a plan by the pastor, his wife, and their followers to establish a church in detention.

The prosecutor in charge, Jami Yamina, stated in court that the suspects had requested to be detained at a single police station.

Mackenzie and his wife, Rhoda Maweu, along with sixteen other suspects, requested to be detained at the Malindi Police Station together, as was revealed.

The request prompted Yusuf Shikanda, the chief magistrate of Shanzu, to express concern.

Yamina added that holding the suspects in a single cell put others at risk of radicalization by the group.
