Legal Luminary Makau Mutua Stands Firm in Defense of Kalonzo’s Kamwene Comments
Makau Mutua, the spokesperson for Azimio, has supported Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in response to his recent comments about the Kamwene faction within the Azimio coalition.
On Friday, Mutua expressed that those criticizing Kalonzo for his ‘tribal outfit’ lack the authority to exert any influence.
He went on to say that Kenya can only be liberated by working together as a unit.
“Those attacking Kalonzo Musyoka for criticizing their tribal outfit are spent forces. Kenya’s salvation doesn’t lie in the “tribe” but in forging a common national zeitgeist,” Mutua said on X.
Kamwene is an assembly of leaders hailing from the Mount Kenya region, aligning themselves with the Opposition coalition known as Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance.
Makau Mutua has expressed disapproval of the Kamwene group, describing it as an ethnic organization.
During a conversation with KTN News, Kalonzo expressed that Kamwene is a concept that is destined to fail from the outset.
He mentioned that utilizing the group as a political philosophy was a highly unfavorable choice for anyone.
He suggested to the team under the leadership of Martha Karua, the leader of the Narc Kenya party, to abandon the notion and collaborate under the banner of Azimio.

“I don’t want to pass judgment on that issue but have you heard of things like dead on arrival? This thing means individualism. It’s a terrible political philosophy. I would advise my friends to leave it and we stick together in Azimio,” Kalonzo said.
Despite the Kamwene group’s assertion of their strong affiliation with Azimio, his comments are still being made.
Later on, Karua raised queries about what it was in Kamwene that made him fearful.
She observed that Kalonzo has frequently mentioned the organization’s name in the majority of his discussions.
“What about Kamwene scares my brother Kalonzo Musyoka that he must drag it in every conversation he has?” Karua posed on X.
Kioni asserted that Kalonzo expressed concern about the solidarity among the Mt Kenya populace, leading him to advocate for the dissolution of the group.
He asserted that their intentions would persist in the manner of Kamwene, and a considerable number of individuals are joining the initiative.
