Kuria Slams Gachagua’s Unity Plea in Mt Kenya: “Kila Siku ni Kuungana?”
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been actively working to garner support from the politically influential Mt Kenya area.
This has sparked speculation that there may be discord between Moses Kuria, the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and Public Service, and the DP.
The two leaders have clarified that there are no problems between them, yet their behaviors have raised further inquiries.
In a recent occurrence, Kuria dismissed the need for the region to come together, asserting that they are already unified in their message.

Kuria raised concerns about the contradiction between politicians emphasizing unity while the region overwhelmingly supported President William Ruto in the 2022 General Election.
He asserted that the majority of leaders advocating for unity were insincere, contending that their true motive was to establish themselves as regional authorities.
“Let me conclude by telling the leaders of Mt. Kenya. Now people are saying that we should unite, have unity, and speak the same language; I don’t disagree. But I want to ask you, didn’t we unite in the year 2022, didn’t you choose us with the majority of votes for William Ruto and Kenya Kwanza, what other unity do these people want? They are united.”
“Now let’s go and ask them where their roads are, where the water they’re asking for is, let’s ask them where that TVET is. Every day it’s about unity. It’s not about uniting to make leaders big, that’s foolishness,” he said.
Why is Kuria against talks of unity?
He articulated that the focus should now shift towards serving the populace and addressing their everyday requirements instead of engaging in political maneuvers.
Kuria contended that unity ought to be driven by delivering tangible benefits to the populace, emphasizing that mere political cohesion wouldn’t address the essential issue of putting food on people’s plates.
“These people don’t want a union that makes people big, they want a union that brings them water, does their work, and pays them a good price for their tea leaves. Leaders, let’s speak the same language but not our language as leaders, let it be a unity in the language of the people. Even if you’re big and called a kingpin, these people of ours can’t make you their meal to eat in the evening,” he added.
Why Gachagua should not fight CS Kuria politically
Meanwhile, political analyst Herman Manyora warned Gachagua about getting involved in a political power struggle against CS Kuria.
Manyora stated that the CS, known for being outspoken, is a shrewd politician capable of jeopardizing Gachagua’s prospects of becoming a prominent figure in the Mt Kenya region.
Manyora suggests that the deputy should feel apprehensive about the former representative from Gatundu South.
