KUCCPS to Open University Application Portal Next Week: How to Apply
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced that it will open the university application portal next week. This gives students who qualified for university education a chance to apply for placement.
KUCCPS CEO Confirms University Placement
KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Agnes Wahome confirmed the development in an interview with Nation on Wednesday, March 19. She assured students that all those who qualified and applied would get placement.
According to Wahome, KUCCPS has already received the approved student capacities from universities. This allows eligible candidates to start their applications immediately when the portal opens.
“This week, we received the approved capacities from universities. They have declared about 300,000 slots, which is more than the number of students who qualified for admission,” Wahome stated.
Who Can Apply?
Wahome clarified that while 246,391 students qualified for university admission, KUCCPS will only place those who apply through the portal.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba also confirmed that the application portal would open before the end of March. While addressing the Education Committee in the National Assembly on Wednesday, March 19, Ogamba explained that delays in opening the portal were caused by a court ruling that halted the new university funding model.
“We agreed that by the end of this month, the portals would be open for university students. We are now working on what should happen next and addressing related issues,” Ogamba told MPs.
Phased Application Process
The latest update comes a month after KUCCPS opened the portal for Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) course applications. This was part of a new phased application process to allow students enrolling for the March intake to apply on time.
KUCCPS CEO Wahome, while addressing education stakeholders on January 25, explained that this phased approach helps students transition smoothly.
“Universities and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) normally have their intakes later in the year, while KMTC and TVET institutions admit students in January, March, and May. The phased application process ensures timely placement,” Wahome said.
What Next for Students?
With the university application portal set to open next week, qualified students should prepare their applications early. They should ensure they meet the requirements and apply before the deadline to secure a spot in their preferred universities.
KUCCPS will continue to provide updates and guidelines on how students can successfully apply for university placement. Stay tuned for further announcements.
