KRA Sets Auction Date of Unclaimed Goods at Moi and Eldoret Airports

Several products that Kenyans failed to claim will be auctioned off at the Moi (Mombasa) and Eldoret International Airports by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

The taxman issued a notice on Saturday detailing the merchandise that will be auctioned off at the Eldoret airport on November 15. The inventory consists of more than 150 smartphones, including models from Oppo, Vivo, and Samsung, among others.

Additionally, e-cigarettes, feature phones (kabambe), and audio systems will be for sale during the exercise.

Prospective purchasers were encouraged to visit the airport from November 13th to 14th to examine the devices and obtain additional information regarding the intended endeavor.

The Customs and Border Control Department announced in a separate gazette office dated Friday that the auction would be conducted at Moi International Airport in Mombasa from December 18-20.

The inventory of items discovered at the Mombasa airport consists of various articles of clothing, pre-owned laptops, unmanned aerial vehicles, jewelry, and precious stones.

The products, as reported by the department, had either failed to be claimed or had remained unclaimed at the airport.

“Under the provisions of section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, notice is given that unless the under-mentioned goods are entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, MIA within 30 days of this notice, they may be sold by public auction on December 18 to 20,” read the notice in part.

Hence, prospective purchasers were invited to the airport to examine the merchandise before the commencement of the official operation.

The items were slated to be viewed from November 14-15.

The agencies, nonetheless, refrained from disclosing specifics regarding the commodity prices.

Several items, on the other hand, are slated for destruction at the Mombasa airport after being designated as prohibited.

Chemicals, milk powder, hair products, shisha pots, and adult devices are among the items included.
