KNEC Under Pressure as Education CS Machogu Sets Date for Form One Placement

Stakeholders want the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) compelled to conduct exams for aggrieved 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) ahead of the placement of candidates.

The students who received erroneous results stated that KNEC was obliged to act after it admitted to releasing the marks

National Parents Association chairperson, Mr Silas Obuhatsa, added that it would be unfair for Education CS Ezekiel Machogu to proceed with the placement set for Monday, December 18.

KNEC and the Ministry are yet to give fresh directives for the students whose results were affected amid calls for government officials responsible for the blunders to resign.

Last month, Machogu announced that the 9,354 affected candidates will sit a special test in January to ensure they do not miss out on Form 1 admission.

Meanwhile, Machogu will preside over the placement of KCPE candidates into Form One at Lenana School from 7.00 am.

About 1.4 million candidates who sat for the exams will know their fate in the meeting between the CS and education stakeholders from all 47 Counties.

“Issued under Article 35 (3) of the Constitution, the Cabinet Secretary for Education will, on Monday, December 18, preside over the placement of the 2023 KCPE candidates into Form One at Lenana School, read the statement by the Ministry of Education.

Late last month, CS Machogu noted that the placement would be done within two weeks and before Christmas.

The placement exercise kicked off on November 27, with the CS assuring Kenyans that the process would be fair to all the candidates.

“Form One placement will start Monday for two weeks to allow parents time to plan for admissions,” the CS assured.

In the 2023 examinations, 8,525 candidates scored above 400 marks where the best student attained 428 marks as curtains closed on KCPE exams.
