KNEC Open Registration for 2024 KPSEA and KCSE Exams

The registration process for the 2024 Kenya Primary School Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams has commenced, as announced by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

On Thursday, February 1, the council issued a notification to inform the heads of institutions that registration portals were now accessible.

The council has instructed teachers to make certain that all qualified applicants complete their registration by the deadline of March 29, 2024.

Teachers have been cautioned by KNEC to ensure the successful registration of all candidates within the specified timeframe, with a clear warning that there will be no extension of the registration window.

“Avoid a last-minute rush and register all your candidates now,” the notice reads. “The dates must be adhered to since there will be no late registration of candidates.”

Enrollments for various school-level examinations are conducted using dedicated portals corresponding to each level, which can be located on the KNEC website.

“All examination centers are expected to log onto a platform for specific examination and enter the candidates’ details using the school registration password,” KNEC directed.

The 2023 KPSEA results were published by KNEC on January 19. Before this, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machagu had instructed teachers to permit students to enroll in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) even before the results were announced.

The initial group of grade 6 students in 2023 will be the pioneer batch taking the KPSEA exams as they transition to grade 7 within the framework of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

“All the 1,282,574 candidates who sat the 2023 Kenya Primary Schools Education Assessment be allowed to join Grade 7 in the Junior Secondary Schools hosted by their respective primary schools where they attended Grade 1-6,” Machogu noted.

Following Operation Linda Jamii, a grassroots organization filed a lawsuit against KNEC, challenging the legitimacy of the methodology employed in tallying the outcomes of the 2023 KCSE examinations, this directive has been issued.

The individual presenting the case in defense against the accusations pointed out discrepancies found in the Oruba Boys High School exam outcomes, where every student received a grade of D with a margin of error ranging from 1 to 2 points.
