Kitengela Police Station Evacuated Over Suspected Gas Leak

Kitengela Police Station was evacuated after a suspected gas leak prompted action from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), following reports of a gas odor within the station.

Adding to the concern was the presence of a parked Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) truck on the premises, compounding fears of a potential disaster.

Prompted by the report, a swift evacuation was coordinated within a 500-meter radius of the truck, heightening the sense of urgency and concern among both law enforcement officers and civilians.

In an interview with Gossipa2z.com, Kitengela OCS David Lemayian shed light on the incident, attributing it to a miscommunication rather than an actual gas leak within the station.

He clarified that the initial report of a leak was unfounded and precautionary measures were swiftly taken, including dispatching experts to validate the claims.

“The situation has been contained; it was merely a case of miscommunication where someone perceived a gas odor and raised an alarm,” the OCS explained. “Upon assessment by experts, it was determined that there was no cause for alarm.”

Despite the LPG truck’s involvement in an accident along the Nairobi-Namanga Highway, there was no immediate risk of a gas leak from the vehicle, reassuring authorities and the public of the situation’s containment.

The incident in Kitengela comes in the wake of a similar event in Embakasi in February 2024, where a gas leak from a truck reportedly triggered a devastating inferno, resulting in multiple fatalities and significant property damage.
