Kirinyaga Deadly Brew Saga: Rogue Police Sell Fatal Exhibit for Ksh.20K, Claims 17 Lives

Recent information indicates that the illegal alcohol responsible for the deaths of 17 individuals in Kirinyaga County was evidence stored at the Kiamaciri police station.

An unnamed police officer revealed to Gossipa2z that the lethal concoction had been kept within the station premises, and on Sunday night, four corrupt officers disposed of it by selling it.

“Our four police officers on Sunday night sold exhibits to the owner of the California bar at Ksh. 20,000 where each officer pocketed Ksh. 5000 each. Please don’t quote me as nobody can confirm as all senior police officers have been transferred, the source told this publication on Saturday evening.

Priced at Ksh.20,000, the lethal concoction quickly sold out and was subsequently consumed at Carlifonia bar in Kangai village. Those who ingested the beverage experienced sudden health issues, including loss of vision, leading to the immediate death of six individuals.

Seventeen families have recently disclosed that they experienced the loss of loved ones at the bar. These families had a meeting with Second Lady Dorcas Rigathi this past Saturday.

Several individuals from Kangai and Kandongu villages in Mwea have alleged that the local police are engaged in illicit activities. They are urging authorities to investigate the behavior of officers stationed at Kiamaciri police station.

The inhabitants assert that the display was hosted at Kiamaciri station for two days before its purchase by the bar proprietor in California.

“I am mourning the death of my only son Francis Muiruri, who died after consuming the deadly brew. He was a diploma holder in a local university,” one Peter Waweru says.

Elizabeth Muthoni, who alleges negligence on the part of the local administration, claimed that the proprietor of the bar continued to run the establishment in Kangai and Kandongu, despite the County Government of Kirinyaga explicitly stating that these bars lack the necessary licenses.

Elizabeth’s 30-year-old son passed away on Monday after drinking the deadly concoction.

Senator James Kamau Murango from Kirinyaga, who is well-informed about the latest happenings, has advocated for the relocation and legal action against the four officers.

“ I have been informed that some Kiamaciri police officers are bar owners, how can they help our people when they are trading with the suspect?,” posed Murango.

Murango asserted that he would persist until the relocation of every police officer from both Kiamaciri and Kangai police stations is accomplished.

He interrogated Mbatian Kantai, the police commander of the Mwea-west sub-county, for permitting the illicit trade to take place.

On Friday, the government issued a directive from Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to summon back all senior officers in Kirinyaga County.

Addressing the audience in Kutus, Gachagua attributed responsibility to Kirinyaga County Commissioner Nayoima Tobiko, Police Commander Reuben Muli, CIC, Mwea West AP, and the police commander and Deputy County Commissioner of Mwea West.

Gachagua mentioned that the investigation will extend to the senior individuals, and they won’t be relocated to different counties until appropriate measures are implemented.

Baricho Law Courts on Wednesday ruled that John Muriithi Karaya alias ‘California’, the owner of the bar where the brew was sold, is detained for 20 days.
