Kioni Exposes Biased Judgment in Favor of Kanini Kega
With the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal confirming Jeremiah Kioni’s dismissal as secretary general of the Jubilee Party, the former lawmaker from Ndaragua resorted to legal recourse.
On Tuesday, July 11, however, while addressing the media at the Stephen Kalonzo Centre in Karen, he argued that the ruling was biased and proceeded to emphasize flaws to support his claims.
Kioni, who spoke at the inauguration of the Tumechoka Initiative, an antigovernment platform unveiled by the Azimio La Umoja to collect signatures to discredit the administration of President William Ruto, complained that the verdict had been predetermined.
“Kanini Kega’s staff had already communicated the verdict to us over the weekend via tweets.
“It is evident within the system that they are in charge of the process,” Kioni asserted, alleging that Kanini Kega held the Judiciary in captivity. His adversary refuted these claims.
In remarks that could provoke the ire of government extremists and attract the attention of investigative agencies, Kioni claimed to have a subsequent judgment that was to be read on Tuesday, July 11 at 2:00 p.m.

The ruling pertained to a case he brought challenging the decision to expel him from the erstwhile ruling party.
He bemoaned, “We have the letter from the tribunal, which will be delivered today to the High Court, complaining about the availability of judgments, particularly those by the majority because minority judgments are not delivered in advance.”
Despite this, he expressed confidence in the High Court, stating that the matter would be resolved swiftly.
In a reassuring statement to his supporters, the former secretary-general emphasized that despite the setback, he was firmly in control of the party structures.
However, he played coy with his remarks, which Kega and his allies could interpret as disdain.
On Monday, July 10, the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal upheld the National Executive Committee’s (NEC) decision to expel Kioni and former vice chairman David Murathe from the Jubilee party.
Consequently, the nomination of East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) member Kanini Kega as the new Secretary General was upheld.
