Kindiki’s Arrest Warning: Raila’s anti-govt Protests Under Fire

Wednesday, July 12th, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki warned Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga that the government will spare no effort in prosecuting the protest organizers and Kenyans who damaged infrastructure and property.

Kindiki noted in a statement that was initially released by Gerald Bitok, the Director of Public Communication at the State House, that many lives were lost during the protest due to unjustified violence.

In addition, the statement asserted that an unspecified number of law enforcement officers and civilians were injured during the protests and that investigations were underway to identify the protest organizers.

“This impunity culture will end. Part of the statement released by Bitok on behalf of CS Kindiki read, “All those who directly or indirectly participated in today’s well-orchestrated breach of the public safety and security of our nation will be punished.”

In addition, it was stated that the government had assembled a team of investigators who would ensure that the issue at hand was thoroughly examined and brought to a logical conclusion.

Kindiki stated in the statement, “The Government has mobilized all the law enforcement agencies of the State and the institutions of our country’s criminal justice system to complete investigations immediately and proceed with the arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the planning and execution of the crimes committed today, including those who funded or otherwise aided or abetted the perpetrators.”

According to the statement, the government had not yet determined the degree and scope of property destruction caused by the violent demonstrations that occurred across the country.

However, the statement made clear that there was no dispute about the willful destruction of property and subsequent economic degeneration due to monetary losses.

“Most characteristically, the architect of today’s lawlessness and impunity, along with his co-conspirators, once again oversaw a day of shameless and unprovoked looting of private premises, illegal obstruction of economic activities, and extensive damage to major public assets and infrastructure built on the sweat of the Kenyan people,” the statement read in part.

The Cabinet Secretary also accused the leader of Azimio la Umoja of lying to the police about their intention to conduct a peaceful rally in Nairobi, even though the planned demonstrations turned violent.

The statement read in part, “They lied to the Police that they would be holding a peaceful political rally at the Kamukunji grounds, only to unleash terror on innocent Kenyans, as a result of which lives have been lost, scores of law enforcement officers and civilians have been grievously injured, and the country’s economy has suffered unimaginable losses.”

Wednesday, July 12 in Nairobi, Raila addressed the media and stated that the demonstrations will continue until the cost of living is reduced and other conditions are met by President Ruto’s regime.

“At this point, it is important to emphasize that there is no turning back. We will exercise our constitutional rights until our demands are met.

Countless protestors were arrested for participating in a constitutionally protected activity, he lamented, and he warned that the country was becoming a police state.

“We cannot allow it to happen again in our nation. We have always maintained that these gatherings are peaceful until the authorities decide to disperse them with bullets and tear gas, as stated by Raila.
