Kindiki Orders Immediate Transfer of Police Who’ve Served 3 years at 1 Station
Wednesday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki announced that the government has already begun implementing a new policy mandating the transfer of police officers who have served at one station for at least three years.
Wednesday, while appearing before the Senate Committee on National Security, Defense, and Foreign Relations, the Cabinet Secretary directed that the process be concluded within sixty days, threatening that those who fail to comply will have their salaries withheld.
“The directive by the government is that any officer after the 60 days who continues to resist or for whatever reason does not move to a different station, the salary will be stopped. It is that serious,” Kindiki added.
While disclosing that the directive was issued two weeks ago, Kindiki stated that the government has also decided that police officers designated to special operations will spend no more than one year at a station.
“For those doing serious operations, normally we move them within one year because of the kinetic and demanding nature of the operations they are involved in,” Kindiki said.
The CS who testified before the William Cheptumo-led committee revealed additional information regarding the compensation of police officers who die in the course of duty.
Kindiki disclosed that the officers’ compensation contract includes a one-time payment equal to eight years of gross salary.

While addressing the recent increase in insecurity in Lamu County, Kindiki disclosed that the government would release the identities of all suspects connected to the unrest in Lamu by Friday.
Kindiki further ordered all suspects whose names will appear in the government’s gazette notice to turn themselves in at the nearest police station, KDF camp, or chief’s office.
Kindiki appeared before the Committee to respond to queries regarding the state of security in Laikipia and the greater North Rift region.
This comes after the Cabinet Secretary deployed a contingent of elite police units to Sondu along the Kisumu, Kericho border on October 5 to contain the escalation of violent crime.
The CS indicated that the relocation was necessitated by the loss of life and property devastation.
“The special deployment is to be supervised jointly by the Rift Valley and Nyanza regional security teams with firm instructions to ensure immediate resumption of normalcy and the arrest and prosecution of every perpetrator of the horrific crimes that have been committed against the people of Sondu Town and its environs,” read the statement in part.
