Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa Reveals Details of Call From Juja MP Koimburi Before Disappearance
Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has shared what happened during a phone call he received from Juja MP George Koimburi just before Koimburi went missing on May 25.
According to Barasa, Koimburi called him using the Signal app and said he was worried that police were after him due to a land dispute.
“Koimburi reached out to me a few days ago through Signal. He told me that police officers were chasing him over a land case. I advised him to switch off his phone and stay in hiding for five days,” Barasa said in a statement.
Barasa later said he was surprised to hear reports that Koimburi had staged his own kidnapping and was found in a coffee plantation.
“I was shocked to learn he faked his abduction and was found in a coffee farm. Police say the spot he claimed to have slept in showed no signs of disturbance. They believe he stayed there for only a few minutes,” he added.
Barasa also compared the incident to a movie, saying, “It feels like a scene from Shackles of War by Cleophas Malala. We need to stop making a joke out of serious issues.”

Reports claim Koimburi was allegedly taken by unknown people on Sunday, May 25, after attending a church service. He was later discovered the next day, dumped at Jacaranda Coffee Plantation in the Kibichoi area, which is part of the Ruirua Coffee Farm in Kiambu County. The farm is said to be owned by businessman Jimmy Wanjigi.
On Monday evening, May 26, the National Police Service (NPS) issued a statement saying Koimburi is being investigated for a land fraud case.
Some political leaders have blamed recent kidnappings and disappearances on President William Rutoโs government. Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka accused the state of using police in an “abduction squad.”
However, the police denied those claims. They said Koimburi was never kidnapped but rather escaped arrest on a motorcycle with his private bodyguards and switched off his phone.
Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga explained that Koimburi already knew he was wanted for questioning in connection to a land fraud case.
โThe MP has been under investigation, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had already approved charges against him,โ the police said.
