Kihika Takes Action: Uproar Over KPLC Poles on Tarmacked Road

Tuesday, July 4, the Nakuru County Government announced that electricity poles installed in the middle of a newly constructed road will be removed.

The administration led by Governor Susan Kihika. Indicated in a statement that Kenya Power had been contacted. And assured that the removal of the poles was in progress.

The county administration explained that the road constructed around the Free Area Estate was new. But that the relocation of the utility poles had caused delays.

Additionally, the contractor left space on the side of the road for the poles’ relocation.

“While inspecting the project, Nakuru County Resident Engineer Symon addressed residents’ concerns regarding the placement of electric power poles in the middle of the newly constructed road.

In response, the contractor has left a two-meter-wide strip for Kenya Power to relocate the power lines, according to the statement.

To ensure motorist safety, the government of Kihika added that the contractor would fill the holes left by the removal of the poles.

The county government added, “And to ensure the safety of pedestrians, the road will be clearly marked with speed bumps placed every 50 meters to control speeding motorists along the loop road’s length.”

The county government’s statement followed a social media uproar in which many feared the danger the poles posed to motorists.
Kenyans initially believed that the poles were erected in Nairobi.

However, it was swiftly determined that the incident occurred in Nakuru.

“There is no justification for the road with the power poles! This is a recipe for disaster. KPLC is directly across from your offices, or you can call the Nairobi offices. I hope the road is not accessible,” said Duke Albert.

“It is insane to allow a high-voltage cable to be in the middle of a roadway. Another concerned user bemoaned that the relocation of utility infrastructure should have been the top priority upon taking over the property.
