Kibet Bull’s Mother Speaks: Two Abducted Sons and a Wasted Ksh 200K Study Loan

Caroline Mutai, the mother of cartoonist Gideon Kibet, also known as Kibet Bull, and his brother Rony Kiplagat, is making an emotional appeal to the government to bring her sons home.

The family’s nightmare began just days before Christmas, turning what should have been a joyous season into a harrowing ordeal. Kibet, 23, was abducted after visiting the office of Busia Senator Okiya Omtata in the capital. His brother, Rony, had gone missing a few days earlier.

Caroline says her family has been consumed by anguish, and the abductions have jeopardized a life-changing opportunity for Kibet. The Egerton University student was preparing to travel abroad for further studies, joining a group of young scholars heading to Israel on December 27.

“I took a Ksh. 200,000 loan for his education,” the heartbroken mother revealed. “Now, everything is on hold.”

Kibet Bull, also known as ‘Yoko’ on social media platform X, gained recognition for his satirical artwork. His striking silhouettes often depict President Ruto and other leaders from the government and judiciary, sparking conversations among critics of the administration.

Caroline insists she was unaware of her son’s online activities. “If I had known, I would have asked him to tone it down,” she said.

The distress of not knowing her sons’ whereabouts has taken a toll on her health. “I have been hospitalized with high blood pressure,” she said.

Despite the uncertainty, Caroline holds onto hope. “Please, government, give me my children,” she pleaded.

Her family, like many others affected by a growing wave of abductions targeting young men, continues to wait anxiously for answers. For now, hope remains their strongest source of strength.
