Key Agreements: Kalonzo and Ichung’wah’s First Meeting
On Wednesday, August 9th, at the Bomas of Kenya, significant progress was achieved during the initial bipartisan discussions, featuring National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
The government and opposition leaders, Azimio, both concurred that the discussions will formally start on the upcoming Monday.
Kalonzo also mentioned that the cross-party group endorsed and directed the establishment of a suitable structure to steer the negotiation process.
“There are matters that need consultation in the next one or two days. We think that the technical team should sit by Friday this week and generate the necessary documents so that on Monday, we get moving,” Kalonzo stated.

The group also reached a consensus to avoid disclosing the details of their conversations to the general public. Both Kalonzo and Ichung’wah committed to ensuring discipline within their respective groups and preventing the release of confidential materials to the press.
Ichung’wah, who holds the position of Kikuyu Member of Parliament, verified that a secretariat will be established and introduced to both the National Assembly and the Senate by Monday, August 14th.
