Kevin Kang’ethe Faces Shift to Industrial Area Prison as Prosecution Pushes Hard
The prosecution has requested the court to transfer Kevin Kang’ethe Kinyanjui to the Industrial Area Remand Prison due to concerns about the possibility of the suspect escaping from police custody once more.
Kang’ethe, sought by US authorities for the homicide of a woman, was apprehended on Tuesday evening in Ngong, following his escape from police custody at Muthaiga station on February 7, 2024.
Standing in front of Magistrate Lucas Onyina at the Milimani law court, prosecutor Vincent Monda informed the court that should the request be approved, Kang’ethe would be permitted access to only the attorneys representing him and no other legal counsel.
Likewise, there was a plea to the court to mandate that during lawyer visits, an investigator related to the case must accompany him.
“We are ready and willing to prosecute this case as soon as possible,” ODPP said.

Moreover, it was mentioned in court that if he needs medical attention, it must be carried out in coordination with the government doctors affiliated with the Industrial Area prison.
Nevertheless, Kang’ethe, represented by his legal counsel, opposed the request, contending that he had not been formally charged with any offense. He asserted that the ongoing court proceedings pertain solely to extradition matters.
“If anything happened then it’s Up to the state to put its house in order. If he can’t be detained at Muthaiga police station then there are other many stations in the country,” Kang’ethe’s lawyer submitted.
Kang’ethe faced his initial arrest in the Parklands area on January 29, following a directive from the United States.
The accused fugitive is said to have committed the murder of Margaret Mbitu in Massachusetts on October 31, 2023. The crime involved inflicting numerous stab wounds to her face and neck, and the victim’s body was subsequently left in a secured vehicle within a parking garage at Boston Logan International Airport.
He then flew to Kenya.
