Kenya’s National Assembly to Vet 14 Principal Secretary Nominees – Public Invited to Submit Objections
The National Assembly has scheduled approval hearings for 14 nominees for the position of Principal Secretary (PS). Kenyans are invited to submit objections before the vetting process begins on April 4, 2025.

- The vetting follows President William Ruto’s recent Cabinet reshuffle.
- Nominees must present original academic certificates and clearances from key government bodies.
- Public objections must be submitted by April 3 at 5 PM.
First Nominees to Face Vetting
Among the first to be vetted are:
- Fikirini Katoi Kahindi Jacobs – Nominated for the State Department for Youth Affairs. His hearing is scheduled at noon before the Departmental Committee on Social Protection.
- Dr. Oluga Fredrick Ouma – Selected for the State Department for Medical Services. He will appear before the Health Committee at 10 AM.
Reshuffle and Key Appointments
President Ruto’s reshuffle introduced major changes:
- Shipping & Maritime Affairs now falls under the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs.
- The State Department for Devolution has moved to the Office of the Deputy President.
- Ahmed Abdisalan Ibrahim will be vetted for National Government Coordination, a key role under the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
- Dr. Caroline Wanjiru Karugu, former Nyeri Deputy Governor, is set for vetting for the East African Community Affairs docket.
- Prof. Abdulrazak Shaukat will be questioned for the State Department for Science, Research, and Innovation.
Economic and Legal Nominees
- Dr. Bonface Makokha & Cyrell Odede Waguanda – Nominated for Economic Planning and Public Investments under the National Treasury.
- Judith Nyaiyai Pareno, former senator, will be vetted for Justice, Human Rights, and Constitutional Affairs.
- Regina Akoth Ombam, nominated for Trade, aims to enhance Kenya’s exports and industrial competitiveness.
Vetting Venues and Deadlines
The hearings will take place at Bunge Tower and the Main Parliament Buildings. Final approval votes are expected by mid-April. The National Assembly Clerk, Samuel Njoroge, has urged strict adherence to constitutional timelines.
