Kenyan and Ugandan Police Recover Ksh267 Million Stolen Goods with Interpol

The Kenyan police, in collaboration with their Ugandan counterparts and Interpol, have made significant progress in the search for and recovery of stolen property valued at Ksh267 million.

According to a statement by the DCI, seven out of 104 containers shipped from India through the port of Mombasa have been recovered.

The search and recovery started when Indian businessman, Surya Parkash, who is also the Chief Executive of Kutch Chemical Industries LTD, supplied a consignment of 104 containers of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) to fictitious companies between December 12, 2022 and April 22, 2023. Between December 12, 2022, and April 22, 2023, an Indian industrialist named Surya Parkash, who is also the CEO of Kutch Chemical Industries LTD, shipped 104 containers of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) to fictitious companies.

In laboratories, caustic soda is used as both a reagent and a cleaning agent.

Parkash reportedly flew to Kenya and complained to the DCI after the shipment vanished at the port of Mombasa, per the DCI.

“Five companies identified as Abbey Chemicals East Africa LTD, Innospec LTD, Akoki Investment Agency LTD, CJP Chemicals LTD, and UNATRAL Free Zone SMC Uganda LTD, had ordered for the consignment which was delivered through the port of Mombasa, between January 31, 2023 and May 15, 2023,” DCI said.

After unloading the containers, the merchants who had not paid for the merchandise vanished and severed contact with the supplier.

A comprehensive investigation led some of the stolen containers to a Ugandan depot.

“Yesterday, the team recovered 7,420 bags equivalent to 7 containers of the product at Liberty Internal Container Depot, a logistical company located along Bweyogere Industrial Area in Kampala. Uganda,” DCI added.

The police report that efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining containers.
