Kenya Triples Masai Mara Entry Fees for All Visitors

After four months of acrimonious debate, the Narok County Government has increased entry fees to Masai Mara National Park by a factor of three.

With the implementation of the new rates in January 2024, adult Kenyans will pay Ksh3,000 instead of Ksh1,000. Students and children will now pay Ksh1,000 instead of Ksh300.

Residents of Narok, on the other hand, must pay Ksh2,000 for adults, 500 for children older than 10 years, and admission is free for children younger than 10 years.

Regionally, residents of East Africa will pay Ksh4,500 (adults). Each rate for children and pupils was set at Ksh2,000.

The rates for expatriates rose to Ksh15,060 (USD100) between January and June and Ksh30,120 (USD200) for the remainder of the year.

Foreign students and minors will be required to pay Ksh7,530.

“Narok County Government has confirmed that the Masai Mara Park Fees for 2024 will be increased to USD 100 per non-resident adult per day from January 1, 2024, to June 30, 2024, and USD 200 per non-resident adult per day, from July 1 2024 onwards,” read a notice on its website in part.

The county government also indicated that park fees will vary depending on whether a visitor resides within the county or not.

For the remainder of 2023, the entrance fee is Ksh10,542 (USD70) per adult per day and Ksh6,024 (USD40) per child under 12 years old for all visitors residing within the main national reserve.

Adults residing outside will pay Ksh12,048 and children will pay Ksh6,777.

Beginning in 2024, the charge for Kenyan adults will increase from Ksh1,000 to Ksh2,000, while the fee for children and students will increase from Ksh300 to Ksh1,000.

For the remainder of 2023, residents of East Africa will be required to pay Ksh 1,200 (adults) and Ksh 500 (children and students). The charge for adults will increase to Ksh4,500 and the fee for children and students will increase to Ksh2,000.

There will be a Ksh500 fee for vehicles with fewer than six seats, Ksh1,000 for those with between 6 and 12 seats, and Ksh3,000 for wagons with between 12 and 24 seats. Vehicles with between four and forty-four seats will cost Ksh4,000.
