Kenya Reports 5 New Mpox Cases; One Patient Isolated- MoH
Kenya’s Ministry of Health reported that no new cases of Mpox have been confirmed in the country over the past 24 hours.
On Saturday, the Health Ministry announced that 21,350 travelers were screened the previous day, bringing the total number of screenings to 302,436 since the start of the surveillance effort.
Despite no new suspected cases being found among travelers, the Ministry noted that five new suspected Mpox cases were reported within the country during the same period.
The Health Ministry stated, “In the same timeframe, five new suspected Mpox cases have been identified, making a total of twenty-nine suspected cases so far.”

“Out of these, twenty-three have tested negative for Mpox, and six cases are awaiting confirmation from the reference laboratory,” the Ministry added.
One of the cases being monitored is from Vineyard Hospital in Kiambu County, where the patient is currently isolated and receiving care.
In the statement released on Saturday, the Health Ministry advised Kenyans not to share images of suspected Mpox cases on social media to avoid spreading misinformation and to protect patient privacy.
Kenya officially declared a Mpox outbreak on July 31, 2024, following the confirmation of a case in Taveta Sub-County, Taita Taveta County.
The patient has since recovered and been discharged from the hospital, with none of the 12 contacts exhibiting symptoms during the 21-day surveillance period.
