Kenya Power Reduces Token Prices
Kenyans have experienced reduced power token prices over the past two months, as a result of Kenya Power’s implementation of price cuts in response to widespread consumer complaints about high electricity costs.
Before these modifications, Kenyans were vocally concerned about the value they were receiving for their money.
In September, a location check conducted by PoliticalPulseChat revealed that consumers are now receiving 37.61 units for Ksh1.00.
This represents an increase compared to August when the same quantity would only fetch 31.15 units.
Additionally, electricity consumers in September received 3.76 units per Ksh100, compared to 3.67 units in August and 3.59 units in July.

The price of tokens has recently decreased, which coincides with Kenya Power’s CEO Joseph Siror’s assertion that electricity is currently the most affordable energy source in Kenya.
This decrease in token prices is noteworthy given that Kenya Power introduced new tariffs in April, causing Kenyans to initially fear that prices could increase by as much as 78 percent.
During discussions with the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), Kenya Power announced its intention to eradicate low-income household subsidies.
This was the first time since 2018 that the power transmission company increased power rates.
President William Ruto assured Kenyans at the time that the elimination of subsidies would not increase token prices.
“I want to assure the people of Kenya that there will be no additional fees added to their electricity bills today or in the future,” the president stated.
