    Kenya Power Announces Planned Blackouts Across Six Regions on August 19

    Kenya Power Announces Planned Blackouts Across Six Regions on August 19

    Several parts of the country will face electricity interruptions on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, due to scheduled maintenance by Kenya Power.

    In a public notice issued on Monday, August 18, the company confirmed that the outage will affect parts of Nairobi, Western, North Eastern, Coast, South Nyanza, and Mt Kenya regions. The power cuts are expected to run for several hours and could disrupt businesses and households that rely heavily on electricity.

    Kenya Power stated:
    “Hello. Please be advised, the following areas will be on planned maintenance tomorrow, 19.08.2025.”


    Nairobi Region

    In Nairobi, residents in Loresho and Githurai will have no electricity from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

    • Loresho areas: Lower Kabete Road up to Hillview Estate, Loresho Ridge, Shanzu Road, Nairobi School, Kibagare Way, Kyuna Road, and nearby customers.
    • Githurai areas: Githurai 44 around Sonic, Zimmerman near Roysambu Primary School, Jacaranda Gardens, and nearby customers.

    Additionally, parts of Makueni County will face a 9:00 am to 5:00 pm blackout. This includes Sultan, Kasikeu, Sultan Hamud Town, Sultan Sub-County Hospital, Major Muiu Quarry, Kavuthu Market, Kasikeu Market, Barazani Market, Nduluni Market, and surrounding areas.


    Western Region

    In Busia and Kakamega Counties, electricity will be switched off from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

    • Busia areas: Busia Town, Malaba, Amairo, KPLC Offices, Okimaru, Malaba Market, Adongosi, Lugoris, Tesia Bakery, Busia Prisons, Khetias Supermarket, Halupe University, and nearby customers.
    • Kakamega areas: Musoli, Shirere Market, Ilesi, Muraka, Mukumu Mission, Malaika Children Home, Shabane, Shitoli Water, Sigalagala Polytechnic, Musingu High, Malinya, Shibwe, Imbale, Bushianga, Akatsa, and surrounding areas.

    North Eastern Region

    Some parts of Kiambu and Kitui Counties will also be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

    • Kiambu areas: Gatundu Hospital, Kenyatta Road, Kamau Muigai, Chuka Village, Mutomo Primary, Kenyattaโ€™s Residence, Githaruru, Gatundu High, Mararo Village, KPLC Offices, Gatundu Water, Tembo Feeds, Mbunje, Gatundu Market, St. Jude Hospital, Muthiga Girls, Gatundu Technical, Mukinyi Market, Muthiga Coffee Factory, PCEA Marima, Ituru High, Muthurumbi High, 2010 Village, Gaithece, Wamwangi Market, Karabara Village, Kamunyu A & B, Githuya Village, and surrounding areas.
    • Kitui areas: Tseikuru Market, Kakoongo, Kora, Mivukoni, Tseikuru, Kaningo, Usueni, Kamisiliu, Mikauni, Wikithuki, Mamamalia, Kaivairya, Masyungwa, Ivonangya, Katse, Kimangao, Mbangwani, Muvinge, Mikwa, and nearby customers.

    Coast Region

    In Mombasa and Kilifi Counties, residents should prepare for a 9:00 am to 5:00 pm power cut.

    • Mombasa areas: Ronald Ngala Road, Buxton, MM Shah, Railways Club, Bridge Hotel, Blooming Birds Academy, JCC Church, Shell Ronald Ngala, Naivas Tudor, High Life, Petro, Mkomani, English Point, Fidel Odinga Road, Chandarana Ask Showground, Tamarind, Captain Andy, Mama Ngina Drive, Crescent Homes, Palm Investment, Greenwood Drive, Jomo Kenyatta Road, and nearby areas.
    • Kilifi areas: Parts of Malindi, Baricho Water, Kakoneni Town, Jilore, Kakoneni Secondary, Pishi Mwenga, and surrounding areas.

    South Nyanza

    In Migori County, power will be off from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The affected areas include Ayego, Chunge, Koduogo, Oria Market, Nyambeche, Thim Lich, Nyaroya, Kambuji Centre, and nearby customers.


    Mt Kenya Region

    The Mt Kenya blackout will run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, hitting parts of Kirinyaga and Meru Counties.

    • Kirinyaga areas: Majengo, Mugamba, Ciura, PIAI, Estana Hotel, PK Njuguna, Rogoi Market, Mugamba Ciura, Murinduko Village & Secondary School, Togonye Market, St Susan, Kariati, Kadawa, Gold, Mumbu Market, Itangi, South Ngariama, Ikurungu Market, Ikurungu Hospital, Morgan, Skai Sana, Gathigiini Primary, and nearby customers.
    • Meru areas: Chaaria, Nkabune, Igoki Dispensary, Mutea Iringo, Kiringo Boys High, Kathuri Market, Nkabune Girls High, Nkabune TTC, Ngugwe, Gugwe Coffee Factory, Ntani Primary, Kanjagi Market, Karimuga Primary, Karimautine Primary, Runywene Primary, Gaitu Market, Gaitu Police Station, Nkuene Primary, Kaguma Market, Chaaria Market, Mbanjone Market, Ruchoro, Cottolengo Mission Hospital, Nguucia, Kaare Market, Sarovina, Njuthine, Gacuru, and surrounding areas.
