Kenya Issues New Advisory for Citizens in the UK Amidst Escalating Anti-Immigrant Unrest

Kenya has released a new advisory advising its citizens to avoid areas of protest in the United Kingdom due to recent unrest driven by anti-immigrant sentiments.

The High Commission of Kenya in the UK issued the warning due to escalating chaos in various cities across the UK.

โ€œThe unrest has intensified in several towns and cities in the United Kingdom. Kenyans currently residing or traveling in the UK are advised to avoid protest zones and to remain alert,โ€ the Mission stated on Tuesday, following the retraction of an earlier announcement.

Kenyans are encouraged to monitor updates from the UK Government to stay informed about the situation.

Previously, the Mission had emphasized its close monitoring of the situation and advised Kenyans to follow local authorities’ guidance to ensure their safety.

The High Commission also provided emergency contact numbers and urged Kenyans in need to reach out for help.

โ€œKenyans in the UK are strongly advised to register with the High Commission through the Missionโ€™s website,โ€ the statement from the High Commission said.

    Concern

This update follows an advisory from Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Singโ€™Oei, who expressed deep concern about the situation in the UK.

He urged Kenyans in the region to prioritize their safety and remain cautious.

โ€œThis situation in the UK is deeply troubling. Kenyans are advised to exercise caution,โ€ Singโ€™Oei noted.

The unrest in the UK began over the weekend after the tragic killing of three young girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party in Southport, Merseyside, on July 29.

The anti-immigrant protests also involved acts of vandalism and violence.

Over the weekend, police arrested hundreds of demonstrators involved in violent clashes in several cities.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer pledged strong measures against the far-right demonstrators and others involved in the unrest.

โ€œThe right to freedom of expression differs greatly from the violent disorder we have witnessed,โ€ he said.

Starmer promised police support to address and counteract the extremists trying to โ€œspread hate.โ€
