Kenya Delivers Hundreds of Passports to Kenyans in the United States
The Kenyan government, through the Ministry of Affairs and Diaspora, announced on May 8 that hundreds of passports have been delivered to the United States by air.
These passports were for Kenyans living abroad who applied for them a month prior.
Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu attributed the swift issuance of these passports to President William Rutoโs administration’s focus on addressing the needs of Kenyans abroad.
She noted that the Mobile Consular Service (MCS), which decentralizes service provision at foreign missions, proved successful.
“The first batch of passports applied for during last month’s Mobile Consular Service has already arrived in Washington DC,” stated PS Njogu.
Njogu credited the achievement to the collaboration between the State Department and the Immigration Department.

She also expressed gratitude to her colleague Julius Bitok, head of the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services in the Ministry of Interior, for facilitating the process.
Previously, Kenyans could only apply for passports in Washington DC, but the Mobile Consular Service now allows applications in major cities across the US.
During the March 2024 Mobile Consular Service programs, Kenyans in the US were able to apply for passports in Boston, Houston, and Seattle.
In Kenya, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has mandated that passports should be issued within 21 days of successful application.
To achieve this, the government has acquired new printing machines to clear a backlog of 700,000 passport applications.
Additionally, Kindiki has pledged to remove corrupt immigration officials who exploit Kenyans seeking services from the department.
