Kenya and Iran Ink 5 MoUs for Stronger Ties
Kenya and Iran have signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen bilateral ties.
Wednesday morning at State House in Nairobi, the agreements were signed in the presence of President William Ruto and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
The signed MOUs include cooperation in the field of animal health and livestock production, which seeks to provide cooperation for the control, prevention, and eradication of animal diseases and to facilitate trade between the two countries.
The second relates to information, communication, and technology. To facilitate, strengthen, develop, and diversify information and communication technology, the two nations intend to establish a framework for consultation and cooperation based on the principle of mutual benefit.
The third focuses on culture and heritage, to establish a framework in which the parties will collaborate based on equality and mutual benefit to strengthen cooperation in the field of culture, including the conservation and preservation of cultural and historical heritage.

The fourth MoU seeks to strengthen cooperation in the fisheries sector by establishing the principles and means of implementing aquaculture to increase the productivity of the blue economy and specifically stimulate the local fishing industry.
The last one centered on Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVETs) to establish a framework for closer cooperation for mutual advantage in the fields of exchanging educational experiences, training, educational consulting, and equipping TVET centers.
President Ruto is optimistic that the memorandums will result in fruitful bilateral engagements.
“These memorandums will enhance and deepen our bilateral relations for sustainable growth and development,” he said.
Iran’s recent diplomatic efforts to reduce the Islamic nation’s isolation by forging new alliances include a rare African travel by Foreign Minister Raisi.
In addition to Uganda and Zimbabwe, he will be the first Iranian president to visit Africa in 11 years.
