KEBS Probes Allegations of Okra Water & Uji Power Enhancing Women’s Sexual Health

The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has launched investigations to validate the authenticity of Uji Power and Okra.

Over the last few months, Kenyan youth have increasingly favored two products, which they claim enhance women’s sexual well-being.

At a media workshop in Naivasha, Director of Market Surveillance Peter Kaigwara addressed a question about the safety of products and their compliance with established standards during a Q&A session.

“This is intelligence that we have received and we shall embark on an investigation immediately,” Kaigwara noted.

He instructed his team of market inspectors to evaluate the products and share the results with the public.

“My team will look into this with the sole aim of establishing if they meet the standards,” he added.

Okra, a well-known vegetable commonly eaten in Asia and Western Africa, is thought to offer numerous health benefits, such as reducing cholesterol levels and safeguarding the heart from inflammation.

The hype surrounding the plant has become popular on social media, with some women asserting that the vegetable is a key factor in boosting their sexual health, while others are skeptical of these claims.

The well-known commodity is sold for prices ranging from Ksh80 to Ksh300, depending on the time of year and the place.

Uji Power is a traditional porridge known for its immune-boosting and energizing properties. It is typically served in a calabash and is priced at Ksh50, though it may cost up to Ksh100 in certain Nairobi shops.

It includes ingredients like arrowroot, sweet potatoes, milk, ground nuts, sugarcane juice, and cassava.

At the session, Henry Maina, Director of the Anti-Counterfeit Authority, warned the public to learn how to recognize the features that distinguish genuine products from the inferior or counterfeit goods available in the market.

“To effectively identify counterfeits, consumers should familiarise themselves with the distinguishing features of authentic products. Such features will help in detecting discrepancies or omissions that may indicate a counterfeit item,” he stated.
