KDF Thwarts Lamu Suicide Bombing, Escalating Anti-Militant Operation

The Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) reportedly eliminated a suicide bomber in Lamu County on Thursday, July 6, as the operation against suspected militants intensified.

Garowe Online was the first to report that the suspected Al-Shabaab militia was neutralized as it approached Camp Sarira in Lamu County with the intent of harming its inhabitants.

Camp Sarira is home to multi-agency security forces working around the clock to combat the recent increase in terrorist attacks in the country.
According to reports, the suicide bomber died on the spot before he could reach a detonator.

KDF had not yet stated the incident. However, GossipA2Z contacted the company’s spokesperson, who stated that they were still verifying the reports.

The military did not confirm or deny the incident. Colonel Zipporah Kioko, the KDF’s spokesperson, requested additional time to confirm the incident in an interview with GossipA2Z.

“I must first confirm the time of occurrence before providing specific details,” she stated.

Colonel Thomas Mwanga also withheld information, referring us to his superiors because the matter was beyond his authority.
He told GossipA2Z, “At the moment, I don’t have any information about the operation, but I can provide you with more information if you contact my boss.”

Unverified reports stated that KDF officers guarding Camp Sarira had shot down a surveillance drone hours before the attack.

The unidentified location-controlled drone reportedly gathered intelligence at the multi-agency camp.

A week earlier, suspected terrorists killed five people in Salama Village, Lamu County, and torched several homes, prompting security agencies to intensify operations.

Sunday, June 18th, in Lamu County, ten General Service Unit (GSU) personnel were injured when their vehicle collided with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki vowed to expel suspected terrorists and postponed the reopening of the Kenya-Somalia border until tensions subside.
