KDF Soldier Faces Kanjo Wrath in Eldoret Over Boda Boda Gear Dispute

County officers popularly known as kanjos on Saturday harassed a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier in Eldoret Town.

A viral clip recorded by locals depicted the kanjos manhandling the officer who was seated on a stationary motorcycle.

In the clip, the kanjos could be seen speaking to the soldier sitting on the bike, and shortly after, began swaying it, making it unstable for the serviceman.

According to locals depicted in the video, the kanjos confronted the soldier and were ostensibly irritated by the fact that he did not have the required gear to ride the motorcycle.

However, the man on the boda showed his official ID forcing the kanjos to retreat.

Reportedly after the kanjos let the officer go, they attempted to attack residents recording the incident on their mobile phones.

This, however, did go according to plan as the locals resisted the attempts leading to a minor confrontation.

The incident caused a scene, attracting spectators, who watched from afar slightly disrupting traffic.

The one-minute clip was however met with criticism from a section of Kenyans who complained that the officer was not immune to the rules.

“The soldier did not have the protective gear. The kanjos were right,” one person commented.

Kenyans also complained that the soldier was alone driving on the wrong side and should therefore be held accountable.

“Even if he was the President, the rules of the road must be observed by all,” another remarked.

Kenyans called upon law enforcement officers to ensure all individuals follow the laws regardless of their status in the country.

According to the Traffic Act, anyone riding a boda without protective gear is liable to a fine of Ksh10,000 or jail time not exceeding 12 months.
