KBC to Receive Ksh202 Million for Solar Panel Installation in New Budget Allocation
The National Treasury has provided Ksh202 million to Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) for the installation of solar panels.
This allocation is detailed in the budget summary for the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunication for the 2024/25 fiscal year, as well as the projected budget for the fiscal years 2025/26 and 2026/27.
The funds for the solar panel installation are part of the Ksh651 million allocated to the State Department for revitalizing KBC and other semi-autonomous agencies under its supervision.
This represents an increase from the Ksh526 million allocated to the State Department in the current fiscal year.
According to the 2024/25 budget, KBC will receive Ksh82 million for installing solar power systems at different KBC stations.
Treasury estimates that Ksh120 million will be used in the 2025/26 fiscal year to finish the project.

In addition to the solar panel installation, KBC will receive Ksh55 million for the transition from analog to digital broadcasting.
Furthermore, Ksh41 million will be used in the next fiscal year for launching the KBC Studio Mashinani project.
This amount will rise to Ksh50 million in 2025/26 and reach Ksh225 million in the 2026/27 fiscal year.
President William Ruto’s administration has also allocated Ksh82 million for the modernization of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication’s film facilities.
KIMC will also receive Ksh123 million for its campus in Eldoret.
The modernization of the Kenya News Agency (KNA) National Desk and Press Centre will cost taxpayers Ksh147 million in the upcoming budget.
The remaining portion of the Ksh651 million will go towards projects such as Medium Wave to FM Broadcast Migration, the Kenya Year Book editorial board offices, and services automation, as well as the introduction of modern outside broadcasting.
