Kayole’s Nyama Villa Estate: 80 Homes on the Brink of Demolition
A private developer is petitioning the court for a demolition order to evict at least eighty families from land in Nyama Villa Estate, Kayole.
Sunday, a Muthithi Investments representative explained that the demolition would only affect 80 homeowners.
According to the official, the landowners had violated the land sale contract they had signed after a court ruled that they were the rightful owners of the property.
The investment firm argued that the 80 properties had violated the payment agreement.
“We will demolish the house of the 80 not because we want but because we have had enough,” an official from the company stated.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta suspended the land’s demolition in 2018 after pleading with the developers to reach an agreement with the homeowners.

Following Uhuru’s intervention, the land was subdivided into at least 304 parcels and the occupants were asked to pay.
However, some of the residents have disobeyed.
“120 of the occupants are continuing with their payments as agreed upon,” he added.
Approximately 20 acres of land have been the subject of litigation for over a decade.
Instances of land grabbing have been on the rise in the country, with innocent purchasers losing their land.
Early this month, the government demolished the homes of East African Portland Cement (EAPC Plc) landowners in Machakos, leaving them to tally their losses.
If an agreement is not reached by December 2023, additional occupants of the land owned by the late businessman Gerishon Kirima may be evicted.
