Karua Fires at President Ruto Over Protests Remarks

NARC-Kenya leader Martha Karua criticized President William Ruto on Sunday for his comments about cracking down on criminal elements that she claims are disrupting recent demonstrations and causing chaos in the country.

Karua took to her X account to continue her critique, arguing that the President’s public statements reflected an unjustified arrogance.

Karua remarked, “Ruto speaks as if he has exclusive ownership of Kenya.”

Earlier in the day, following a church service in Chebango, Bomet County, President Ruto pledged to protect the nation and uphold law and order.

Ruto noted that he had heard and responded to various concerns raised by Kenyans and suggested it was time to restore normalcy.

In his address, the President urged those who disagree with his policies to engage constructively to resolve issues peacefully and democratically.

“Enough is enough; this cannot continue because the country is greater than any single group. We must unite as a nation to safeguard Kenya and ensure it remains a democracy.”

Earlier in the week, President Ruto accused foreign entities of funding protests in Kenya to incite disorder. He specifically targeted the New York-based NGO, The Ford Foundation, with a warning.

The Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary later requested The Ford Foundation provide a list of organizations it supports in Kenya and details about their activities.

In response, The Ford Foundation denied funding the protests and directed the government to its website, where information about grant beneficiaries is available.

This development comes as Kenya prepares for another protest on Tuesday.

These protests, branded #OccupyEverywhere and occurring over the past month, are focused on demanding government accountability.

Kenyan youth are calling on the Kenya Kwanza administration to address corruption, curb wastage, appoint qualified individuals to key roles, and show improved leadership overall.
