Karua Alleges Courts Weaponized Against Demonstrations

Martha Karua, a co-principal of the Azimio Coalition, has asserted that the courts are being used as a weapon against them to prevent the anti-government demonstrations that were previously planned.

“The courts are being weaponized to silence dissent maandamano,” Karua stated.

The leader of the Narc Kenya party said that the arrests of Azimio leaders were an attempt by the police to interfere with their political activities.

“When police arrest to sabotage legitimate political activities and turn up in court alleging conspiracy, then know that the courts are being weaponized,” she said. “When police arrest to sabotage legitimate political activities and turn up in court alleging conspiracy.”

This follows the arrest of Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino on Tuesday night, who was subsequently charged with conspiracy to incite disruption or engage in subversive activities.

After their appearance before the Chief Magistrate of the Milimani District Court Lukas Onyina on Thursday, he and five others, including the ghetto president Calvin Gaucho, were all accused.

They refuted the allegations against them.

The Cambridge Dictionary defines subversion as “behavior or activities that try to destroy or damage something, especially an established political system.” Subversion can refer to both behaviors and activities.

Both Gaucho and Owino were taken into custody before the beginning of the three-day demonstrations.

The demonstrations were scheduled to take place from Wednesday through Friday.

After Chief Magistrate Onyina has made his decision, it is anticipated that the two will find out today (Friday) whether or not they will be released on bond.
